Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RFPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcementWP:A/I/PIA. The page is within scope of the restrictions. Per the ArbCom remedies, only extended-confirmed editors should be able to edit the article. Sean.hoyland (talk) 05:08, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: There has been a variety of statements/edits made on this article that are both unsourced and/or WP:OR. A protection would benefit the page, as it would help ensure that only sourced material is added. DisneyMetalhead (talk) 06:41, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. We don't protect pages preemptively or over anticipated problems, only as a result of ongoing disruption. I don't think there are enough disruptive edits happening here to justify protection at this time. Please make a new request if the situation changes. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:04, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Recent non-constructive edits by auto-confirmed editors. ManaliJain (talk) 06:47, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. Protection does not appear to be necessary at this time. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:11, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism by caste fanatics, who change the facts regularly. Minakshi Pillai (talk) 07:15, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing made by several IPs who make changes to the articles such as replacing the word "burusera" with "child porno" which is considered as disruptive to editors who have to revert these changes. Galaxybeing (talk) 09:48, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP Vandalism, particularly targetting a certain paragraph written under the India subsection. Over Months various different IPs and Accounts evidently have been trying to bury it desperately. I have counted 5 attempts since June 2024 over the span of half a year. Evidently will never stop so it needs a long term block. ContributedEditor (talk) 09:50, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. The last clearly disruptive edit I see was from November, and removed the Nigeria subsection, not India. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:39, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Has passed away and is likely to have a lot of edits. A very controversial figure and could invite vandalism. Has seen some non-neutral edits already. Telfordbuck (talk) 12:10, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Likely collateral damage as one or several users who are making improvements would be affected by the requested protection. I see plenty of IP edits, but not much vandalism. As the death is already reliably sourced, and the page is well watched, I do not think protection is necessary at this point. Lectonar (talk) 15:08, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Increase of IP removal of sourced information MysticCipher87(alt-account) (talk) 12:42, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Lectonar (talk) 15:06, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Continous vandalism by IP addresses. Taabii (talk) 13:22, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Lectonar (talk) 15:06, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – High profile article targeted by several single-purpose editors (WP:COI), without consensus and unsigned. R3ap3R (talk) 14:49, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. I agree. Lectonar (talk) 15:05, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: keeping adding information from unreliable or without any source. seems like a biased vandalism from a different community against a this particular community. same person also keep adding false information in other article related to this community such as List of Vellalars. Mr.fakepolicy (talk) 16:40, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:46, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Problems have restarted after a one month semi-protection expired. Entranced98 (talk) 17:52, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Vandalism target as appearing in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page. Akiaveliara (talk) 18:12, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Have warned IP user about their repeated disruptive edits. No response, doubt they even look at their talk page. cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 18:30, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Semi-protection should be quite sufficient. Favonian (talk) 18:39, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Persistent vandalism – Every user edit since August has been the insertion or (very quickly) removal of inappropriate external links to promote various sites offering coloring pages. Nat Gertler (talk) 18:39, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The protection is no longer necessary because their popularity alright died down and the article was indefinitely protected since 2012. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 13:49, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The case is now closed. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 15:43, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – a) No compelling reason why IPs or newly created users should edit it. b) The elements who have disrupted the case as well as the article of concern have not retired. Favonian (talk) 16:01, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
